Welcome back to the weekly gaming roundup. February's final week is arguably the strongest of the month, delivering a supernatural visual novel rooted in Japanese folklore, a definitive action RPG remaster, one of the most anticipated survival horror entries in years, and a beloved Tales title finally getting its remaster treatment. Before we get into this week's new games 2026 releases, be sure to check out our esports predictions and analysis for full tournament coverage. On top of the releases, the gaming industry served up a historic leadership change at Microsoft, a seismic shift in the competitive fighting game community, and a platform-level controversy involving age verification. Let's dig in.

Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android
Release Date: February 19, 2026
The original PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo was a tightly written, criminally underrated mystery visual novel that understood how to weaponize its own medium against the player. This follow-up shifts the haunting to Ise-Shima, a coastal region of Japan steeped in mermaid mythology, and the premise alone signals that Square Enix hasn't lost its nerve for genuinely unsettling storytelling.
The protagonist is Yuza Minakuchi, a young pearl diver working the waters of the remote island of Kameshima alongside his best friend Azami Kumoi. When Yuza encounters a vision of himself on the ocean floor, a cascade of curses begins tearing the island apart. The narrative layers multiple playable characters across its runtime: a girl of mysterious origins, a foreign treasure hunter, and a housewife investigating a drowning all converge on the hidden truth behind the Mermaids of Ise, a legend buried under centuries of fog.
Mechanically, the game introduces several new systems alongside a diving mini-game, while retaining the multi-character structure that made the first entry so compelling. The backgrounds are authentic 360-degree reconstructions of real Mie prefecture locations, produced in direct collaboration with regional authorities. For fans of supernatural narrative games that reward careful attention, this one warrants full investment.

Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5
Release Date: February 20, 2026
The Ys series has quietly maintained one of the most consistent quality records in action RPG history, and Ys X: Proud Nordics arrives as the definitive version of the franchise's tenth mainline entry. Built atop Ys X: Nordics, this edition brings improved graphical performance, quality-of-life refinements, and a substantial expansion that adds a new island, new characters, and a brand-new storyline woven seamlessly into the original campaign.
The narrative centers on Adol, the young red-haired adventurer who has anchored the series for decades, and Karja, a proud Norman warrior he encounters at sea. The two become linked by shackles of Mana and are forced to unite against the Griegr, an undying horde threatening the Obelia Gulf. Their ship, the Sandras, becomes the staging ground as they recruit companions across the region.
Proud Nordics expands on this foundation with Öland Island, a brand-new location paired with Shield Siblings Canute and Astrid, whose story integrates cleanly into the existing campaign structure. The new Mana Hold ability introduces environmental manipulation into the combat and exploration loop, while Muspelheim, a timed high-difficulty dungeon, provides a genuine gauntlet for series veterans looking to test their ceiling.

Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: February 26, 2026
The original Tales of Berseria was something of an anomaly when it launched in 2016: a Tales game with a morally complex female lead, a story that centered vengeance and emotional devastation rather than hopeful heroism, and a combat system with genuine mechanical depth. A decade on, the remaster finally brings it forward with enhancements that address the rougher edges of the original release without undermining what made it resonate.
At the center is Velvet, a woman marked by traumatic betrayal who sets out on a journey of vengeance through the archipelago kingdom of Midgand. Her companions are an eccentric group whose convictions and contradictions make the cast one of the most memorable in the series. Thematically, the game frames its central conflict as a sustained argument between emotion and reason, with Velvet positioned as the embodiment of instinct against a world that prizes systematic order.
The remaster adds destination markers, the option to disable enemy encounters, and immediate access to the Grade Shop from the opening, all of which lower the barrier of entry without sacrificing the depth that long-time fans valued. DLC from the original 2016 release, including character outfits pulled from previous Tales games and useful equipment for traversal, is bundled into this edition as a comprehensive package.

Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: February 27, 2026
The Resident Evil series has reinvented its formula enough times that each new mainline entry arrives with genuine uncertainty about its direction. Resident Evil Requiem threads the needle by pairing two protagonists with fundamentally different gameplay styles, an approach the series has revisited at several points in its history, and anchoring both in the long shadow of Raccoon City.
Grace Ashcroft is an FBI intelligence analyst, methodical and deductive, who arrives at an abandoned hotel alone to investigate a death with personal resonance. Her mother's passing left her someone who buries herself in work rather than confronting grief, and the game appears to lean directly into that psychological wound. Leon S. Kennedy returns as the seasoned DSO agent he has become since surviving the original Raccoon City incident in 1998, now drawn back to the Midwest to investigate a fresh string of deaths.
The game offers full perspective flexibility, allowing players to switch freely between first-person and third-person viewpoints during play, blending classic survival horror design with the more contemporary approach that has defined recent entries. Combat, investigation, puzzles, and resource management all feature in what Capcom is billing as the most immersive entry in the franchise to date.

Microsoft Gaming's executive structure underwent a fundamental reset effective February 23, 2026. Phil Spencer, who has been the defining face of the Xbox brand for over a decade, has retired from his role as CEO. Sarah Bond, the president of Xbox, has also resigned, while Matt Booty has been elevated to Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, a promotion that signals continued confidence in the studios operation he has long led.
Spencer’s full quote is:
"When I walked through Microsoft’s doors as an intern in June of 1988, I could never have imagined the products I’d help build, the players and customers we’d serve, or the extraordinary teams I’d be lucky enough to join. It’s been an epic ride and truly the privilege of a lifetime. Last fall, I shared with Satya that I was thinking about stepping back and starting the next chapter of my life. From that moment, we aligned on approaching this transition with intention, ensuring stability, and strengthening the foundation we’ve built. Xbox has always been more than a business. It’s a vibrant community of players, creators, and teams who care deeply about what we build and how we build it. And it deserves a thoughtful, deliberate plan for the road ahead. Today marks an exciting new chapter for Microsoft Gaming as Asha Sharma steps into the role of CEO, and I want to be the first to welcome her to this incredible team. Working with her over the past several months has given me tremendous confidence. She brings genuine curiosity, clarity and a deep commitment to understanding players, creators, and the decisions that shape our future. We know this is an important moment for our fans, partners, and team, and we’re committed to getting it right. I’ll remain in an advisory role through the summer to support a smooth handoff. I’m also grateful for the strength of our studios organization. Matt Booty and our studios teams continue to build an incredible portfolio, and I have full confidence in the leadership and creative momentum across our global studios. I want to congratulate Matt on his promotion to EVP and Chief Content Officer. As part of this transition, Sarah Bond has decided to leave Microsoft to begin a new chapter. Sarah has been instrumental during a defining period for Xbox, shaping our platform strategy, expanding Game Pass and cloud gaming, supporting new hardware launches, and guiding some of the most significant moments in our history. I’m grateful for her partnership and the impact she’s had, and I wish her the very best in what comes next. Most of all, to everyone in Microsoft Gaming, I want to say “thank you”. I’ve learned so much from this team and community, grown alongside you, and been continually inspired by the creativity, courage, and care you bring to players, creators, and to one another every day. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together over the last 25 years, and I have complete confidence in all of you and in the opportunities ahead. I’ll be cheering you on in this next chapter as Xbox’s proudest fan and player."
Taking over as CEO is Asha Sharma, who previously served as President of Microsoft's CoreAI division, and brings external experience from a VP of Product and Engineering role at Meta as well as her time as COO at Instacart. Spencer, who began his Microsoft career as an intern in 1988, joined the Xbox team in 2001 and became Head of Xbox in 2014, framing his departure as a deliberate transition planned with CEO Satya Nadella since fall 2025. He will remain in an advisory role through mid-2026 to support the handoff.
Sharma's early public statements set an unambiguous priority: great games come first, everything else follows. She explicitly committed to not flooding the ecosystem with what she called "soulless AI slop" in the pursuit of short-term efficiency, a line that landed well with a community that has grown wary of the industry's AI enthusiasm. Spencer's farewell message reflected on 25 years building the Xbox ecosystem and expressed full confidence in the path ahead.

The Evolution Championship Series, universally known as Evo and the most prestigious event in competitive fighting games, has passed into full Saudi ownership. Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC), a Saudi firm backed by the Public Investment Fund, completed its acquisition of Evo through RTS, a games talent agency QIC had purchased previously and which held a minority stake in Evo at the time. That earlier RTS purchase had already made QIC a minority shareholder; this transaction closes the loop entirely.
The acquisition was formalized in a February 17, 2026 statement on Evo's website, positioned within QIC's broader vision for Qiddiya City, a large-scale development project that will include a dedicated Gaming and Esports District. Evo's 2026 schedule remains anchored around established major events in Tokyo, Las Vegas, and Nice, France.
Looking further ahead, Evo has announced 2027 events in Saudi Arabia, China, Morocco, Mexico, and Brazil, reflecting the global expansion ambitions that accompany this new ownership structure. A Fighting Game World Championship is also in development, requiring competitors to demonstrate proficiency across multiple titles. RTS CEO Stuart Saw will continue in his current role, and the announcement was explicit that Evo's traditions, values, and identity will remain intact under the new structure.
Saudi Arabia's footprint in competitive gaming has grown steadily. The country launched the Esports World Cup in 2023, with the inaugural edition held in Riyadh in Summer 2024. Saudi non-profit MiSK acquired 96.18% of SNK in 2022, and in November 2025 announced a US $4.1 million prize pool for the 2026 SNK World Championship. A Kingdom of Gaming conference is also scheduled for Riyadh from December 1 to 3, 2026.

Discord has pulled back on its age verification rollout after a wave of user criticism forced a reassessment of both the policy and how it was communicated. The platform had announced on February 9, 2026 that all accounts would default to teen-appropriate settings, potentially requiring users to prove their age through either facial age estimation (a video selfie analyzed by AI) or direct identification submission to Discord's verification partner. A global rollout had been targeted for early March 2026.
The backlash was swift and significant. Discord is now pushing the implementation to the second half of 2026. In a February 25, 2026 blog post, co-founder and CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy acknowledged that the rollout messaging had misfired badly, with many users concluding that face scans and ID uploads would be mandatory for everyone. Vishnevskiy clarified that more than 90% of users will not need to take any verification action at all, as the platform's internal systems already determine age for most users without additional input.
Compounding the controversy was Discord's choice of verification partner. The company had been working with identity firm Persona, which drew criticism due to partial funding from Founders Fund, a venture firm tied to Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel, given Palantir's contracts with ICE, the US Department of Defense, and the Israeli military. Discord has confirmed it will no longer work with Persona.
Vishnevskiy also referenced a hack in October 2025 that potentially exposed the government IDs of approximately 70,000 Discord users, acknowledging that privacy anxiety around ID verification is grounded in documented precedent. Users in countries with existing age verification laws, including the UK, Australia, and Brazil, may still face verification requirements through approved methods even after the broader delay.
That wraps up our February Week 4 roundup. Between Resident Evil Requiem delivering the survival horror goods and Tales of Berseria finally getting its long-overdue remaster, it's a genuinely strong week to be a player.
